1) Reality show stage:-

Performing at different age groups for Zee Saregama and winning them multiple times, being judged by stalwarts of music industry, it wasn't a cakewalk for Shreya. She proved her mettle each time and came back bettering her previous rendition. 

2) Bollywood break:-

Smt. Leela Bhansali, mother of Sanjay Leela Bhansali suggested him to check this little contestant for the innocent voice of Paru, character to be played by Aishwarya Rai. The sweetness and melody, dipped in innocence won his heart and little Shreya was now rehearsing for the mega musical blockbuster, Devdas as the voice for the lead actress. Carrying bags to study in free time in between the long schedules of rehearsals, she found the home where she truly belonged to - The studio! This break into Bollywood garnered her multiple awards on debut including the prestigious National award for Best playback singer female. 

3) Debuting the South music industry:-

She didn't restrain herself to Bollywood singing (she had already recorded and released marathi and bengali albums), Shreya ventured into the south industry, Tamizh Industry first, followed by Telugu. Picking up the correct diction and perfect pronunciations became a habit to her. This made sure she spread her wings wide, not just in Bollywood.

What is the purpose of Life.. Lata Mangeshkar an inspiration

Day before Lata Mangeshkar ji left for heavenly abode and I was watching her last rites on the news channel in the evening. Her songs were being played continuously without even having to be repeated, for the number of songs she's recorded is mammoth. Both the sides of the road was guarded by people who were true music lovers and had come to see her one last time. I even saw a lady who traveled all the way from Amritsar to just get a glimpse of her beloved Ma Saraswati. Each face was filled with tears which exuded sincere and selfless love for Lata ji. Each one had only one common thing to say - Not a single day passes without hearing atleast one song of Lata ji. The unfulfilled wish of meeting her will remain in the hearts of so many of them. Getting blessed by her will remain an unticked wish in their bucket list.

Elaborating her musical greatness is beyond my capability and I would refrain from doing so; but what has stuck my mind since then is how one single soul had made such a massive impact in the life of lakhs of people, most of them haven't even seen or met her in person, but still have strong connection with her through her music and art. 

Lata ji had stopped singing long back, but still the fact is, she was there as Guru of playback singing. Though in the last few years her outings must've been restrictive owing to her age and the pandemic, but the solace that she's there comforted every musician, whether established or aspiring. Her teachings in the form of singing technicalities in each song, guided every musician, and will continue to do so. That is exactly the meaning and purpose of life I thought! To make a difference in the life of people by your actions. Not just when you are alive, but also when you have left the world behind. Even after two decades, her musical teachings will still live on. That's the aura of her art, the greatness of the artist residing in her. 

Quoting an example of the same is the recording of the blockbuster song, Deewani Mastani from Bajirao Mastani. Shreya Ghoshal, who lent her voice for the same, said in one of her interview how Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director as well as composer of Bajirao Mastani, asked her to imagine how Lata ji would approach such a song. He asked her to derive inspiration from her songs and singing style to deliver Deewani Mastani and accordingly Shreya's perspective changed and the effects can be seen in her flawless rendition of the Deewani Mastani. These little things that I see around have an indefinite impact as a person on me. It teaches me what no books could probably offer. Her sincerity and determination, the perseverance and dedication towards her art is immensely inspiring. And as a student for life, I keep on adding such lessons into me. It explains me the purpose and meaning of a life. Trying to make tiny spec of difference in someone's life, someday. And giving my hundred percent to whatever assignment I take up. Back then, when having a TV was big deal; when getting a cable connection was luxury; when participating in a reality show was Real; yes, that's exactly when we discovered the global icon whom we sobriquet today as the Melody Queen, Mistress of Music, Nightingale, Muscular Dove, Bollywood Queen, Shreya Ghoshal. She was nurtured and harnessed by the Greats and Legendary musicians of India. And that's why we could see clearly, she deserved to Win- That day and today. In those non emotional, non back story show; all that one was judged on, was singing and nothing. Only talent was picked and only proficiency could lead you further. 

2 Blockbuster debut

Winning the show was an end to greatest beginning of all times in Indian music industry. A lil school going girl, was chosen to lend voice to the most beautiful woman in the world. Her innocence and honesty in voice were her sole companions. Her hard work and diligence were her sole swords. Her earnesty and quest were her sole tickets to take off. And she did take off like a pro. Not one, not two. Straight five songs in a magnum opus musical blockbuster of Bollywood of all times. We climbed up slowly and steadily; we kept filling our kitty one by one. Though each day got lengthier with time, your words and actions ensured that I was always up for it. Irrespective of the end result that awaited us, we kept going as far as we could.

India. It's beyond just being the name of the country we live in. It's an emotion we breathe each morning of diversity and oneness with the our cup of ginger chai or filter kaapi. We live each day with pride swollen chests of being children to a motherland who has given birth to the greats and saints.

So many poems and proses have been penned to elaborate the geographic, cultural and historical beauty of India, yet, Apni Maati still manages to find a novel way of picturisation. Right from being crowned with snow laden Himalayas to flaunting the jewels that flow in the unstoppable rivers which ornament the fertile ground we're gifted with.

Being born in a country like India has perhaps been the single most influential reason for the growth of a storyteller in me. The mythological epics which I've grown up to, has single handedly held all my attention. The knitting of stories into each other in these; the role players and their due importance of each character were chapters I learnt free of cost. 

At every stage, family and friends were of prime importance. I grew up to believing to the power of prayers and goodness that one harbours in heart. I learnt of cementing relationships and pride in performing every kind of labour with honesty and dignity. Apni Maati reminded me of these tiny specks of joy I had tucked away for long.

Songs like Apni Maati is not meant to be heard for this one day. It's a constant reminder of how beautiful a country we live in and how we've fought our way to achieve all that we own now.  And we shall continue this fight united, like before.

While there are ample theories revolving around the conspiracies relating to the birthing of need and want for partition; the lines were drawn not just on papers but on the sentiments of thousands of people living on the borders and across the nation. To choose a ground to lay their mortals on the basis of religious ideologies and philosophies was tough. The sense of trust was lost forever, on leaders who turned into politicians. Unaware of the selfish gains the men at power harboured, innocent people were massacred brutally in the name of misunderstanding walls built.

Undecided and suddenly orphaned children of the motherland ran into the directions they thought was best for them. Whoever knew what future beheld for them. It broke hearts: of children, of lovers, of neighbors, of everyone who hadn't even in the scariest nightmare thought of this untimely separation from the loved ones. Partition left people lost with wounds, vagueness, ambiguity; being irreparably broken and torn.

The lines of division could but be drawn only on land. The sky and winged creatures flew boundlessly, then and now. If you've been trying to cope up with this self imposed isolation, thanks to the pandemic influenza which has set up it's spiral across the globe; I'm sure you've been also pondering of those lost relationships, the ones which had entangled your existence once but are now no more part of your substance, for those strings have been untied and you've left the verses to fly away.

"Lafzoon k dhaage khul gaye

Ab woh kahani hum nahi.."

Nah Woh Main is the reminiscing cup of stanzas which has bitter cubes of brokenness undissolved. It is slideshow of memory lanes running on the screen of the mind which none can watch. Torn and loosened lines don't make up a prose neither do they portray unifying poetry rhymes. The romance that once bloomed have been robbed of it's fragrances, and now the lingering dry petals bring more pain than memory. Review of Tere Bina by Shreya Ghoshal

So after a wait for almost five odd months since her first ever independent single Dhadkane Azad Hain released, The Mistress of Music Shreya Ghoshal has brought us her second exquisite single, Tere Bina. If last time you witness our Alice running in her Wonderland; this time you'll find our Juliet pouring her agony of separation and distance from Romeo.

Shot in a day you witness some heart wrenching scenic beauty, the cinematography deserves a lot of appreciation. I loved how even the shadows and frames and fire..just everything is speaking the unspoken.

Composition wise I do not think in near future we've been lucky enough to hear and imbibe a genre so rare like thumri! Loved each and every instrumentalists. Words will definitely fail to unveil the effervescence of musical beauty you experience while watching and hearing Tere Bina.

And the Vocals. I'm quite sure that this song will remain untouched and uncut like a diamond for a lifetime for I know that when Shreya Ghoshal, the Empress renders a song with so much emotion, there is not a single person who could come close to even "trying" to render cover version of it! Tere Bina makes me so proud of Shreya..she choose to move away from the crowd. She choose the intricate path and she has made sure that we get the best!
